Fès
Morocco opened its borders to tourists after COVID in the spring of 2022. I travelled to Fès, a historic university town just south of the Atlas Mountains in central Morocco. The city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and contains the worlds largest urban pedestrian area, in the form of a large Medina which dates back to 789 AD. The city is one of artisans who create intricate pottery, tan leather, weave rugs and fabrics. Very few machines are used in the process, instead, techniques that have been used for a thousand years are still rigidly followed to today.
I travelled to Fez to document how COVID affected a population that relies heavily on the tourist trade. This was also my first visit to a culture that follows traditions outside of the Western world. It has been a revealing and high impact visit. These are a selection of images captured during my time there.
